Statistics on the use of time

12.14.2005

The main goal of the 2002-2003 Survey on the Use of Time is to provide information on the time dimension of the entire series of activities the population embarks on throughout the day.

This time magnitude encompasses the distribution, length and timetable of these activities. These statistics thus support the development of family and gender equalitiy policies, while also contributing to generating the national accounts. This statistical operation also provides information on:

  • real hours worked
  • the scope of non-market work
  • help amongst households
  • transport of travellers and mobility
  • the population's cultural and free-time behaviour

This is an activity that is included within official statistics, as part of the project of harmonised surveys on the use of time within Europe, which thus ensures the comparability of results on an international scale.
