Statistics on salaries

01.18.2008

Idescat is publicising the data from the sources currently available on salaries: first, the Wage Structure Survey (abbreviated EES) with data on 2002, and secondly the Annual Wage Structure Survey (EAES) with data on 2004 and 2005.

The 2002 EES is a survey conducted every four years by the INE. The data presented herewith are the result of an expansion of the results for Catalonia. The main goal of the 2002 EES is to obtain results on the salary levels of wage and salary earners and to reveal the differences in distribution due to the characteristics of both the workers and the jobs. It also reveals the salary structure from the standpoint of both its composition and the variables affecting it.

The EAES is a statistical operation conducted by the INE with a time reference to 2004 in its first edition. It was created with the goal of obtaining annual salary estimates for those years when the EES is not conducted. The goal of the EAES is to find out the average gross annual earnings per worker, classifying it according to the main socio-demographic variables along with other variables related to the characteristics of the job. The EAES also provides information on the average per hour earnings for work according to the different characteristics of the occupation.

The data resulting from both sources are not mutually comparable as different methodologies are used. Thus, the population scope of the 2002 EES encompasses all employees working in venues where there are at least ten employees on the social security rolls. In contrast, the EAES includes venues with fewer than ten employees on the social security rolls. What is more, it should be borne in mind that the EES gathers all the information on salaries through a specific survey that contains a great deal of information on the characteristics of the workers and the jobs. In contrast, the EAES is derived from different statistical and administrative sources.
